I also have broken 2 king pins and a pivot pin on these plates. I'm an old school skater from the 80s when these were THE plates. I love these, but have to come to the realization that these don't do well for derby.

Best plates ever!

I bought my 595 boot, Laser "hard nose" plate and bones wheels in March of 1987 (yes 87) and I have not replaced anything! I still have my 295 boot with laser "slider" plates and zinger wheels from December 1984 that my wife uses.

Great plate but not for Derby
Specs (St. Louis) 9/30/2010 5:29 PM
This is a great plate but I would not recommend it for Derby players. I've had mine for about 6 months and have already broke a pivot pin and 2 kingpins.

Laser Hard Nose

I had the old Black Diamond plates and love them. I picked up these plates at a derby tournament and immediately fell in love with them...until last year when my truck fell off during a bout warm up. My king pin snapped and because it is a little longer than most king pins, nobody had one to fit my skate. We ended up having to rig the plate on using a short pin until after the bout and now I'm skating on a plumbing screw. What I'm finding is that because the holes where the truck connects to the plate is nylon, it wears down and the trucks get super loose and fall out. My plates are only two years old and I've skated apx. 10 bouts in them which is why I'm giving the plate only 3 stars. I love the single action trucks and lightweight of these, but for derby, it appears I need something more sturdy.

Single V/S Double action
Speedy (Taylors) 2/4/2010 6:51 PM
I have a custom made stainless steel laser plate from the same design has all the same parts far as trucks,bolts...and I changed from a dbl. action to a single big diff. as soon as i mounted the plates and snugged the trucks down it was ready to roll from the get no tweaking like dbl actions that are hard to get set for comfort..these plates make you feel like your floating across the floor..and Im 28 and work at a rink..highly rec...pic of skate on facebook""john travis suddeth""thanks for your time..
